Nurse Anesthesia Track, DNP

The Doctor of Nursing Practice specializing in Nurse Anesthesia focuses on anesthetic management in various clinical settings to patients in every stage of life. The nurse anesthesia track provides the leadership skills needed to transform evidence-based care into practice and measure outcomes.

Admission Requirements

  • Current, unencumbered or eligible for RN licensure in the State of Ohio without any previous revocation, denial, suspension, or license restriction from any state or country.
  • A minimum of one-year current critical care experience at the time of application. Minimum experience is defined as current employment for at least one consecutive full-time year of critical care nursing. The following does not constitute critical care experience for admission to The University of Akron: operating room, labor and delivery, step down or telemetry units, neonatal intensive care, emergency room, post-anesthesia care units, and cardiac catheterization labs.
  • Graduation from a CCNE or NLN accredited baccalaureate nursing program.
  • Transcripts from all colleges/universities undergraduate coursework demonstrating a minimum of a 3.4 GPA on a 4.0 scale (or the equivalent) for all nursing degrees (ADN, BSN, MSN) and a minimum 3.0 GPA in first attempt at three hours of chemistry, six hours of anatomy and physiology, and three hours of microbiology.
  • Current ACLS certification.
  • CCRN Certification with Score Report.
  • Observe a CRNA for a minimum of eight hours on required Observation Form.
  • 300 word position paper describing professional goals and specific desire to seek graduate education at The University of Akron.
  • A resume following the Resume Template and outlining relevant experience and achievements.
  • References from three individuals who can attest to clinical or academic skills and potential. The references must include at least:
    • Current nursing supervisor or assistant nursing supervisor
    • Previous nursing instructor (if graduated in the last five years)
    • Colleague

Program Specific Requirement: STAT 661 Statistics for the Life Sciences or equivalent graduate level statistics course. Receives no credit toward the degree.

DNP Clinical/Internship Experience

Students must complete a DNP Clinical/Internship Experience of 540 clock hours.

Students must meet clinical hour and case requirements of the COA.
